Dr Anil K Radhakrishnan’s Profile
Dr Anil was awarded MBBS (First Class) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India in 1994. He served as Medical Officer in several hospitals in Malaysia and subsequently completed his specialist postgraduate qualifications in Internal Medicine from University of Malaya as well as the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom in 2001.
He was posted as a Physician at Melaka Hospital in 2001 and was then selected to undergo the Ministry of Health’s Gastroenterology Fellowship Subspecialty programme in Malaysia’s premier national referral centre, the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (KLH) in 2002.
During this period Dr Anil was handpicked to receive a Monash University administered scholarship to undertake a prestigious Fellowship in Gastroenterology in the Eastern Health network of hospitals in Melbourne, Australia. He worked and trained in Melbourne with the renowned Professor Peter Gibson as Gastroenterology/Hepatology Specialist Registrar from 2003- 2004 and conducted a study on surveillance protocols for colon polyps during his tenure. He returned to KLH and completed his Health Ministry Fellowship in June 2005. He served as Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist and Physician in the Department of Medicine, KLH until he elected to offer his services to KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital. In 2009, he was elevated to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow (FRCP).
Dr Anil is adept in the diagnosis and management of a spectrum of digestive disorders including acid reflux, gastrointestinal bleeding, dyspepsia and H .Pylori, irritable bowel syndrome, gallstone disease, colitis, bowel cancers and pancreatic disorders among others. He frequently manages liver diseases such as jaundice, fatty liver, cirrhosis and viral hepatitis. As a physician he regularly treats patients with a variety of acute and chronic internal medical diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
Dr Anil is a trained therapeutic endoscopist. His varied areas of interests include therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy, endoscopic haemostasis, PEG tube insertion, polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection , small bowel endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), stent insertion, dilatation of stricture, achalasia cardia management, endoscopic ultrasonography, as well as esophageal manometry (to assess swallowing problems) and esophageal pH study.
He is accredited by the Health Ministry as a trainer in gastroenterology and has trained several physicians in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy. He has served in the Health Ministry’s Gastroenterology Subspecialty Training Committee and was bestowed the Excellence in Service Award in 2007 by the government for his significant contributions to clinical services.
Dr Anil has conducted and participated in several clinical trials including multinational trials. He has been invited to talk on many gastroenterology & hepatology related topics, served as moderator and expert panel in seminars and meetings and has published posters for scientific meetings as well as research work in peer reviewed journals. He has personally organised many national level endoscopy workshops in KLH over the years and is affiliated to professional organisations such as the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Malaysian Medical Association. Dr Anil is fluent in English, Malay, Tamil, Malayalam and is learning Mandarin.
